Kent has a limited number of byways. Due to the  increased popularity of off roading over the past 15 years or so, many tracks have taken much heavier traffic levels than ever before. Fortunately the maintenance of much of these byways have been inproved  over the more recent years and are now much easier to drive in recent years. On the flip side of the coin some have not been maintained or have been subjected to tremendous abuse, by all forms of leisure and commercial off road traffic. Hence to combat the worst times for errosion in the UK wet season over 6 months of the year, has made some of the softer tracks closed for this period. This is being relicated all over the UK and in other countries.

The green land association or GLASS  for short with others  monitor the legal side of many of these closures, and can advise on temporary closures (TRO), And the more permanent ones too.

The club tries to keep abreast of these movements and uses them for planning trips out.
